Capacity-building of Amnesty International France

In 2016, the board of Amnesty International France launched a reflexion process on the challenges that the organisation and its members face when promoting Amnesty International message, especially on the topics of welcoming refugees, the discrimination against Roma people, or the excesses of the state of emergencies and counter-terrorist policies. Out of this reflexion, came the conclusion that there were needs to better take into consideration the rise of hate speech in the French society – on the internet and offline – in the development of Amnesty International policies and actions. A call for consultants to support Amnesty International France in building its capacities to combat hate speech and discrimination was launched at the end of 2016. The call focused on the review of the existing internal resources on these topics and the development of new tools and approaches to support Amnesty International France.

Role on the project

Consultant responsible for:

– the review and evaluation of Amnesty International France existing tools on hate speech and discrimination;

– the development of new tools: a handbook, a set of thematic sheets of information (antigypsyism; hate against migrants, asylum seekers and refugees, hate against Muslim people); a set of workshop to be self-organised by activists in their local groups;

– the development and the implementation of training sessions for Amnesty International France activists on combating hate speech and discrimination (both on the internet and offline).
